Since being thrashed by Chelsea 8-0 at Stamford Bridge in December, Aston Villa have been in a state of freefall. They lost subsequent games to Tottenham and Wigan by a combined margin of 7-0, then drew with Swansea City at Liberty Stadium before losing to PL newboys Southampton at home.
The Villans have taken just a single point in their last five league outings, which shows just how dry things are for coach Paul Lambert’s men and their gaffer must realise that more of the same cannot continue for much long.
In previous seasons, Villa would have looked forward for this fixture but they will be worried about their chances this time around. The reason is that West Brom have been in scintillating form so far this season and once soared as high as third position on the league ladder, although they have now dropped down to seventh, which is still outstanding for a club of their size.
However, like Villa, the Baggies’ recent form hasn’t been that great either and they are also winless in their last five games in all competitions. But having said that, there is no doubt that Steve Clarke’s squad is far better than that of their Saturday evening opponents. Hence, backing West Brom for an outright win over Aston Villa with Bet365 at odds of 1.83 is the only logical play for this fixture.
