Troyes AC will welcome FC Girondins de Bordeaux to Stade de l’Aube this Tuesday where the two teams will play out the second semi-final of this year’s Coupe de France.
Bordeaux won this competition consecutively in 1986 and 1987 but have since never even made it to the finals. Hence, they would be hoping to break that drought this time.
Troyes have made it to just one Coupe de France final in their history, and going all the way is unlikely to be very high on their agenda this time too, as they are fighting relegation in the league. Cup distractions could hurt their survival bid, and so it won’t be surprising if they send out a weakened line-up.
The home side have won three and lost three of their last six games, which shows their do or die mentality. On the other hand, Les Girondins have nothing left to achieve in this season. They are neither in relegation fight nor in the battle for European places, which explains why all of their last three games have ended in lacklustre draws.
Jean-Marc Furlan’s side is missing two players, who are Sebastien Grax and Corentin Jean. Bordeaux’s only injury absentee is Evan Chevalier.
When these two teams met back in December, Troyes escaped with a 0-0 draw even though it was Bordeaux’s home. This time around, they can again put up a brave fight but because they need to devote all their energies to their survival bid, chances are they will sacrifice their cup ambitions. The play here is to back Bordeaux for an outright win with Paddy Power at a return of 2.20.
