Aston Villa have now conceded 15 goals in their last three league matches and it is pretty clear that the 8-0 thrashing they received from Chelsea a week ago has totally messed them up. Before that beating at Stamford Bridge, the Villans were unbeaten in their previous six games and had allowed their opponents to score just three times in those clashes. So for such a defensively solid team to start conceding in bunches is a clear indication that there is something psychologically wrong with them, and problems like these just don’t go away that easily.
The previously impressive Christian Benteke’s game has suffered a significant drop too and coach Paul Lambert recently admitted that Villa are fighting for their Premier League status this season.
“This football club has been in a survival battle for the last couple of years. You’re in a fight, but so are about eight other teams. Everybody is in a fight. The last three results have certainly hurt us, there’s no doubt about it because everybody was all positive after the Liverpool game [when Villa won 3-1 prior to the Chelsea defeat]. But as soon as three results go against you, there’s negativity,” Lambert said.
On top of their form struggles, the Villans are also certain to be without Nathan Baker, Dareen Bent, Richard Dunne, Gary Gardner and Stiliyan Petrov, while Gabriel Agbonlahor, Charles N’Zogbia and Ron Vlaar’s participation is doubtful.
With so much going against their opponents, it is really a no-brainer to pick Swansea for a win in this encounter. Therefore, backing the Welsh club with Pinnacle Sports‘ Asian Handicap line of 2.06 is the play here.
