Arsenal didn’t manage to qualify for the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals despite defeating Bayern Munich 2-0 on Wednesday night in Germany. While their European campaign certainly ended with that away goal loss, their impressive performance against such a formidable side could spur them into ending their domestic season in style.
The Gunners currently trail the the third-placed Tottenham and fourth-placed Chelsea by seven and five points respectively but they have a thing working for them this weekend which could see them close the gap on their London rivals. While coach Arsene Wenger and company will travel to Wales to take on Swansea, Spurs and Chelsea face tricky home assignments against Fulham and West Ham respectively.
Both the Blues and Spurs will be playing in their own backyards but they have London derbies on their hands and anything could happen in those matches due to the fierce inter-city rivalries among the clubs based in the English capital. Hence, it could be the perfect opportunity for Arsenal to win their game against the Swans on Saturday and hope that their aforementioned rivals drop points.
Another angle is that Swansea’s season is technically over and they have nothing more to achieve in this campaign. They are safe from relegation and a surge up the table to secure Europa League spot wouldn’t do them any good since they already are guaranteed a place in next season’s competition due to their Capital One Cup triumph.
From now till May, Arsenal will be fighting for their Champions League qualification and so their players are expected to be fully motivated. The story of their opponents, however, could be a lot different, and some complacency or lack of motivation could creep into their game. The pick for this game is to back Arsenal for an outright win with Mybet at a return of 2.25.
