Arsenal have brought back their flailing domestic season back on track by winning their last four league matches. They recently thrashed Newcastle United at Emirates Stadium by a margin of 7-3 and are now scheduled to take on 18th placed Southampton at St. Marys.
The Gunners have a habit of throwing away their momentum just when things start to look good and this is exactly what could happen on January 1 against the Saints. While their offense is certainly operating at a high level, it should be noticed that they have conceded six goals in their last three outings.
Moreover, the Saints’ last few performances have indicated that they are on the verge of delivering a shocking result. They drew 3-3 with Stoke City last weekend, with the highlight of their play being their ability to break the Potters defence (league’s best) thrice. Before that, they had managed another hard-fought 1-1 draw with Fulham at Craven Cottage in difficult conditions.
Coach Nigel Adkins’ men are showing signs of life and there is a good chance that they could spring a surprise draw – if not a win- this Tuesday.
Arsenal are once again missing the oft-injured trio of Abou Diaby, Lukasz Fabianski and Andre Santos. Southampton’s only injury concern is their captain and inspirational leader Adam Lallana.
The Saints still are not strong enough to be backed for an outright win in this fixture, but backing them with Bet365′s Asian Handicap Line of +1 goal at odds of 1.68 is something that can be given a try.
