Sevilla’s recent 4-0 domination of Real Zaragoza in the Copa Del Rey quarterfinal means that the mood in their camp is quite positive right now. But this cup joy does in no way erases the fact that their performances in the league have been quite abysmal so far this season.
The reality is that this Andalusian club has been one of the disappointments of this season’s Primera Division and is currently sitting at a lowly 12th spot on the league table, something which is quite poor considering that they used to be one of Spain’s select best after Barcelona and Real Madrid until recently.
Their central defender Federico Fazio recently reminded his teammates of their league plight and urged them to replicate their cup form in La Liga, starting from Monday night’s clash with the relegation battlers Granada.
“We are preparing for the match against Granada with more energy and confidence. But we cannot be distracted because we have to get three points. We know we are not where we wanted to be at this stage of the season but our response has to start on Monday,” the big Argentine recently told Sevillafc.es.
“We have some big games coming up and it’s very important to get six points to move up the standings. We have a good team and we have time to turn things around. When I’m wearing the shirt and I look around, I see the quality there in the squad to raise our level.”
The Rojiblancos goalkeeper Andres Palop’s participation in this fixture is not guaranteed although he could make the starting line-up by passing a late fitness test. Other than that, coach Unai Emery doesn’t have any other new injury headaches.
Granada, on the other hand, would have to do without the services of Moises Hurtado, Fran Rico and Dani Benitez, all three of whom are injured.
The visitors’ form has also improved of late and they have lost just once in their previous five outings. However, Sevilla has greater quality in their ranks and it is about time that they get their ailing domestic campaign back on track.
The recommended play here is to back Sevilla -1 goal with Pinnacle Sports at odds of 1.76.
