Manchester United and Liverpool will revive one of the fiercest rivalries in British football on Sunday at Old Trafford. The latter’s struggles of the last few years mean that this fixture has lost some of its charm but still things often get intense when these two meet.
The Reds have registered back-to-back 3-0 victories over QPR and Sunderland in the league – a run of form that has lifted them into the top half of the table. They also inflicted a 2-1 defeat over lower-league side Mansfield last weekend in the FA Cup, although it was a hard-fought win.
United, on the other hand, are in even better form and are undefeated in their last six games in all competitions. The only non-win in that run was the draw that came last weekend against West Ham United in the FA Cup.
Wayne Rooney is still nursing a knee injury and the chances of his participation in this game aren’t too bright. Phil Jones has recovered from his injury but is also unlikely to feature in this one. However, Anderson and Nani have shrugged off their respective hamstring problems and could play today – albeit from bench.
For the visitors, Jose Enrique is injured, which means one of Stewart Downing or Andre Wisdom will be drafted in the starting line-up. Glenn Johnson will be shifted to the left in case of the latter’s inclusion.
Liverpool’s form has improved significantly in the past few weeks but against a ruthless side like the Red Devils, who have scored 54 goals already this season in the league, it is unlikely they’ll be able to come away with anything.
Backing Manchester United for an outright win with Bet365 at odds of 1.95 is the play here.
