The meeting of Fulham and West Ham isn’t considered one of the most fiercest of London derbies but some special circumstances means that both the sides’ fans will be urging their respective clubs to avoid a defeat in this Wednesday-night fixture.
The reason behind such thinking is that even though both West Ham and Fulham sit at a respectable 12th and 14th on the league table, a slight dip in form (starting from this game) could send them sliding down the table and near the relegation table in a hurry.
Another interesting fact about this particular fixture is that it is the clash of two teams with very contrasting home and away forms. For example, Fulham have been very disappointing at home this season and have picked up just 12 points from 11 games at Craven Cottage. On the other hand, West Ham are one of the poorest travelling sides in the league, having won just twice away from home all season. Moreover, the Hammers’ two victories on the road came against the not-so-mighty teams such as QPR and Newcastle United, who have been the Premier League’s punching bags for much of the ongoing season.
Both the teams are expected to make two changes to their respective starting line-ups, with Georgios Karagounis and Hugo Rodallega coming in for Fulham, and Joe Cole and Matt Jarvis for West Ham.
The last times these two teams met, the venue was West Ham’s Upton Park, month was September 2012 and the result was a comfortable 3-0 win for the home side. It will be the Cottagers’ turf this time and so they should avenge their loss.
The recommended bet for this fixture is to back Fulham for an outright win with Ladbrokes at odds of 2.20.
