Bayern Munich will play their second Bundesliga game in three days when they travel to the south-west of Germany to take on SC Freiburg at the Mage Solar Stadion on Tuesday.
Both the teams involved were in action earlier today. Bayern maintained their 100 per cent start to the new domestic campaign in tact by defeating Nurnberg 2-0 at their own Allianz Arena. It means that they have now won seven straight games since being defeated 4-2 by Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup.
One cause of concern for coach Pep Guardiola is that his side hasn’t looked convincing in either of their last two league games. Against Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend, they won by a single Mario Mandzukic-strike while they needed second half strikes from Frank Ribery and Arjen Robben to defeat Nurnberg in today’s game. The opening goal didn’t come until the 69th minute in that game.
However, it is not totally surprising to see Bayern struggle to break down domestic minnows. The thing is that due to the attacking wealth available at their disposal, their small to mid-sized rivals are likely to park the bus and play with ten men behind the ball – something which Guardiola endured a lot during his trophy-laden stint with Barcelona. Good thing is that unlike the Catalans, the Bavarians do have the physicality up front and strength at the back to cope with such systems. All they need is a few more games and a bit more fluidity.
Freiburg have drawn one and lost two of their three games so far this season, which explains what kind of a team they are. They have found the back of the net in all three of those games and scored multiple times in today’s 3-3 away draw against Hoffenheim. It means there is some life in their offense, and they might come out an play a little. If that’s the case, it should be a mismatch and Bayern should tear them into apart. The play here is to back Bayern Munich -1.5 goals with Bet365 at a return of 1.70.
