Champions League aspirants Everton are scheduled to host West Brom on Wednesday night in a game which has the potential of elevating them back among the top four on the league table, provided that some other things go their way too.
The Toffees had a reputation of coming alive in the second half of the Premier League seasons but they have managed to do one better than that this term by being excellent in the opening half too. They currently hold the fifth spot on the league table, which means that if Tottenham lose to Norwich City at Carrow Road and they thrash the Baggies tomorrow, then they will be back in the Champions League places.
The upcoming game shouldn’t be a too difficult a job for Everton as WBA are currently going through a very dry spell and haven’t won a single game in their last five games in all competitions. Their strong start to the season is what is keeping them in the top half of the table but it will surely shift them down if their form doesn’t improves soon.
One glimmer of hope for coach Steve Clarke’s men is that Everton haven’t been offensively productive of late in the league and played out two 0-0 draws with Swansea and Southampton in their last two outings.
Another thing that could disturb the brilliant Toffees’ rhythm is that reports have emerged in the British press that their manager David Moyes is being targeted by Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich. The loss of their Scottish trainer would be a huge blow for Everton and even though currently these are just unconfirmed reports, chances are that it might mess up their players’ focus and concentration a wee bit.
Backing West Brom +1 goal with Bet365 at a return of 1.93 is the smart play here.
