FC Barcelona and AC Milan – two teams possessing contrasting streaks – will meet in this UEFA Champions League Group H fixture at Camp Nou Stadium on Wednesday night.
The mighty Catalans have remained unbeaten in their 17 competitive games so far this season. They did look slightly less than their usual buccaneering self in some of the games, but drawn matches are the worst they have had. They’ve won all three of their last games, beating Real Madrid 2-1 on the weekend before last, followed by 3-1 spanking of Celta Vigo and then this Saturday’s 1-0 defeat of fellow Catalans Espanyol.
Milan, meanwhile, are winless in their last four games – two of which have been defeats. This last weekend too, this ailing giant of the Italian game were humiliated 2-0 by Fiorentina at San Siro – once considered a fortess for the home team. Reinforcements in the form of Keisuke Honda and Adil Rami are set to arrive in January, but it’s unlikely they’d change much. At least not this season.
With just three wins from 11 games in Serie A, the Rossoneri have slumped to 11th on the points table. They should be thankful that their UCL group is a relatively easier one. Even if they get nothing at Camp Nou – which is more than likely – the should be able to negotiate their way out and into the knockout stages due to other two teams in the group being being Celtic and Ajax.
Despite their obvious and much-publicised problems, Milan have this ability to raise their game sometimes against Barca. Like last month, they played well against the La Liga champions at San Siro and held them to a 1-1 draw. If Robinho had been more clinical, they could have even won the tie. They aren’t able to replicate those same, competitive displays in Catalonia, but then, no one else can do that either.
Milan’s hapless defence will get exposed in this upcoming fixture. The play here is to back Barcelona -1.5 goals with Pinnacle Sports at a return of 1.62.
